VALLEJO — Buddy the steer was a bit aggravated prior to Thursday’s Solano County Fair Livestock Show. His 16-year-old handler Maritza Partida simply stared into his eyes and his anger immediately subsided.
“I just try and get him to look at me and listen to me because there is a lot of noise all-around,” said Partida, representing Dixon Ridge 4-H.
Asked if she is a “steer whisperer,” Partida just laughed with a big smile and said, “I wish.”
Partida was one of six 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America youth participating this year with their beef cattle. There were many more participants in poultry (chickens, quail and turkeys), rabbits, swine, goats and sheep with judging taking place inside and outside the livestock center.
