SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that California hospitals could resume medically necessary surgeries that were delayed so medical professionals could prepare for a coronavirus surge.
“We are in a position today to begin to pull back and lean in by beginning to schedule surgeries once again, not only through our hospital system but through our broader health care delivery system,” Newsom said in a press conference.
He said that the scheduled surgeries are those deemed essential, such as tumors and heart valves. The ease on restrictions does not include cosmetic surgeries.
