Become a sewing superhero, of course.

Enter Marleen Maltby of Vacaville and her dedicated crew of volunteers, aka Marleen’s Mask Makers.

With thread to spare, armloads of fabric and time on their hands, the sewers have crafted thousands of face masks for local healthcare workers, public safety employees and, essentially, anyone in need since Solano’s shelter-at-home directive went into effect in March. About a thousand more have been made for the Navajo Nation, with more on the way.

All were given free of charge.

DIXON, CA — Five Dixon and Vacaville students seeking agricultural careers are sharing $10,000 in college scholarships from the Friends of the Dixon May Fair.

The organization, the service-oriented and fundraising arm of the fair, annually awards scholarships to Solano County residents majoring in an agricultural-related field at either a four-year university or a two-year community college in California. Since 2003, the Friends of the Fair, headed by president Donnie Huffman of Vacaville, has bestowed $210,750 in college scholarships.

Vacaville to hold virtual meetings on Park Parish project

Vacaville’s Community Development Department will be providing several opportunities for residents to get their views on a proposed project near Magnolia Park.

The Park Parish project, which consists of constructing 21 single-family detached homes on a parcel at the northeast corner of Vanden Road and Cogburn Circle, is being proposed by Agape LLC. The area had previously been zoned for “Neighborhood Commercial” in the Southtown Master Plan, which was adopted by the Vacaville City Council in 2004. Agape is seeking to change the designation to “Medium Density Residential.”

VACAVILLE, Calif. (KTXL) — A property on Leisure Town Road in Solano County may soon be the location of a tiny home shelter project. But it’s causing problems as residents say they only recently found out about the project.

The Tiny Tuff Shed Project, originally approved by the Solano County Board of Supervisors, was supposed to break ground in 2018 on Brown Street in Vacaville.

But now, Supervisor Skip Thompson confirms the tiny shelter project is being considered at a different location.

VACAVILLE, CA — Several Bay Area CVS stores, including one in Vacaville, are among more than 80 in California where Rhode Island-based CVS Health Corp. is accused of failing to comply with the requirements of California’s so-called “bottle bill” for the recycling of cans and bottles, according to state officials with CalRecycle.

Lawyers with the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery filed a $3.6-million administrative enforcement accusation Thursday against CVS Health Corp.
