Man strives to provide solution to Solano homelessness

VACAVILLE — A humble cardboard table was set up Saturday behind the Vacaville Public Library-Town Square.

It was filled with food, various bags of clothing and shoes. There were stacks of Bibles on the ground as Christian Scott, part of the War Room, gave out free food to the homeless.

He described the War Room as an evangelical organization that supports the homeless in a variety of cities around the Bay Area. They also have a closed Facebook group.

Public raises no concerns about plan to expand Hay Road Landfill

FAIRFIELD — Plans to expand the Recology Hay Road Landfill in rural Vacaville received no opposition at last week’s Solano County Planning Commission meeting.

In fact, Recology’s plan to increase capacity by 8.8 million cubic yards got no comments at all during the public hearing.

The commission, with board Chairman Johnny Walker absent, conducted the meeting Thursday with the sole purpose of receiving comments on the Draft Subsequent Environmental Impact Report for the project. No action was taken.

VALLEJO — Tattooed women are not a new phenomena.

A look around “Tattooed and Tenacious: Inked Women in California History” will allow someone to travel in time from the past to the present at the Vallejo Museum’s exhibit.

Before Kat D. had a program on TLC, there was Maud Wagner, who lived from 1877 to 1961.

She was an aerialist and contortionist, working in traveling circuses. She met tattoo artist Gus Wagner in 1904 and exchanged a date with him for a lesson in tattooing. She served as her husband’s apprentice. The two traveled the country working as tattooed artists and tattooed attractions.

Solano agrees to join cities for allocating regional housing needs

FAIRFIELD — The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday agreed to form and participate in a subregion group consisting of the county and its cities for the planning and implementation of the next Regional Housing Needs Assessment.

The county and the mayors the cities, as part of the City County Coordination Council, informally agreed to take this step “to allocate the county’s housing allocation to each of its local agencies using a locally developed methodology.”

The jurisdictions took the same approach during the past Regional Housing Needs Assessment cycle for 2015-22, when the county was allocated 6,977 units. The prior cycle for 2007-14 had a combined allocation of 12,985 housing units.

VACAVILLE, Calif. (KTXL) — A property on Leisure Town Road in Solano County may soon be the location of a tiny home shelter project. But it’s causing problems as residents say they only recently found out about the project.

The Tiny Tuff Shed Project, originally approved by the Solano County Board of Supervisors, was supposed to break ground in 2018 on Brown Street in Vacaville.

But now, Supervisor Skip Thompson confirms the tiny shelter project is being considered at a different location.
