Coronavirus: Vacaville City Council to consider finalization of outdoor dining program

Following the discussion last meeting to open up parking lots and on-street parking spaces for outdoor dining, the Vacaville City Council will consider authorizing a plan at Tuesday’s meeting.

The plan, intended to allow restaurants to maintain their capacity while still providing enough space for diners to sit 6 feet apart, seeks to expand outdoor dining options and to temporarily suspend parking requirements to allow for privately owned lots, courtyards and other open spaces to be utilized for dining.

According to a staff report by Tim Padden, economic development manager, the proposal is in response to the decline in revenue for restaurants following the coronavirus and stay-at-home orders.

“The pandemic has caused an unfortunate economic downturn for many Vacaville businesses,” he wrote. “Economists have estimated that nearly sixty percent of job losses during this pandemic have come from food and hospitality businesses.”
