The former Sleep Train Arena in Natomas is one of several sites around the state being prepped to house hundreds of COVID-19 patients as the state expects a surge in cases.

The arena, which has been sitting empty for years after the Sacramento Kings moved to the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, could begin accepting patients as early as April 20, Gov. Gavin Newsom said during his daily briefing Monday afternoon.
