The Solano County Fair Board of Directors could debate whether to return to a pre-pandemic actual fair until the cows come home. In the end, only the livestock auction will be in person and the rest virtual June 17-20.
“There was quite a bit of back-and-forth discussion. I don’t want to say it was an easy decision. It was a prudent decision,” said Mike Iokimedes, executive director and CEO of the fairgrounds.
Wednesday’s decision during the board’s monthly Zoom meeting wasn’t cut-and-dried, Iokimedes said, with an eye on the governor’s June 15 target date of easing COVID-19 restrictions in California.
Board of Directors president Manny Angel researched the possibilities and surmised that the fair “wasn’t going to happen” for the second straight year, Iokimedes said.
