FAIRFIELD — Larry Sly told the Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that his decision to retire after 40 years as the executive director of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano was a difficult one because he loves the work.

“But there is no reason for us to be doing what we are doing,” Sly said about feeding the hungry and needy.
