July 4th parade returns to downtown Fairfield as pandemic restrictions ease

FAIRFIELD — Bring on the parade.

The city plans a Fourth of July parade this year on Independence Day. The 2020 parade was canceled due to Covid-19.

This year’s theme is “Reigniting Community” – with emphasis on unity.

In addition to the traditional parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Fairfield, a variety of activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the county lawn at Jefferson and Texas streets.

Fireworks legal, available in Dixon for July 4

While Fourth of July fireworks celebrations have been canceled across Solano, that doesn’t mean you can’t light up the night on your own.

At least, in Dixon, Suisun City or Rio Vista, where you can legally buy and set off safe and sane fireworks.

In Vacaville, Fairfield, Vallejo, Benicia and rural Solano, where fireworks are banned, you’re relegated to virtual festivities or visiting loved ones in Dixon, Suisun City and Rio Vista.

On Tuesday, sales were brisk at the TNT booth off Stratford Avenue near the Safeway in Dixon.
