Solano County confirms West Nile virus activity

Two mosquito pools in Solano County have tested positive for the West Nile virus, various agencies confirmed in a county news release Wednesday. However, no human cases have been reported in the county yet.

The specimen samples were collected by the Solano County Department of Health and Human Services, the Davis Arbovirus Research and Training (DART) laboratory and Solano County Mosquito Abatement District in southern Davis, which is within Solano’s boundaries, on Friday.

“This marks the official start of West Nile virus season in Solano County,” Dr. Christine Wu, Solano’s deputy health officer, said in a statement. “This is an important reminder for residents to take the necessary precautions to avoid coming in contact with mosquitoes, such as using insect repellent when outside and eliminating standing water where mosquitos can breed.”
