Wildfire smoke tips Solano air quality into unhealthy range

FAIRFIELD — Smoke from various Northern California wildfires tipped the air quality scale into the unhealthy range Thursday with expectations for unhealthy air quality again Friday.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued an air quality warning – called a Spare the Air alert – Thursday and will keep it in place Friday as smoke that had been drifting overhead for more than a week made its way to ground level across the region.

It is illegal for Bay Area residents and businesses to use their fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, outdoor fire pits or any other wood-burning devices when air pollution warnings such as this are in force.
